Conyers Letter To Cathy Hughes TWO Days Before Hearing!
The Subcommittee on the Courts and Competition Policy held a hearing on Trends Affecting Minority Broadcast ownership on Thursday, July 9th, 2009. Cathy Hughes, Founder and Chairperson of the largest African American owned broadcast company was invited to speak, just two days before the hearing.
See the invitation letter below:

During any normal procedure of legislation, all parties that are considered, are informed well in advance. It’s despicable of John Conyers to send a 2 day later of invitation, which should have been sent a week in advanced!! Time is of essence…..Time is needed for planning and organization to prepare for such a subcommitte hearing, which will impact countless of thousands of Black owned media outlets.
how can you tax black radios station that is discrimination how about you take heavy metal radios station off the air too
This is ridiculous!!! Conyers is a straight-up crook! You know that he must be getting something out of the deal. How can you sell out your own people. Here is another example of the crabs in the barrel theory. Everytime one tries to get out the barrel another crab tries to bring him back down. I sincerely hope he and the other crooks who are in on this get what they really deserve!!!
lets keep working at keepin black radio alive. if we keep makin music or even open a charity that except donations we can make this work through christ who strenghtens us!
What’s in it for you Mr. Conyers. I’m ashame to think you are a sell out to your ethnicity. In 2006 you were an advocate for reparations for Blacks. In 2009 you are for Black Radio remaining in the air as long as they PAY for it? What are you thinking? Does this bill include taxing white owned stations that play hard rock, heavy metal, whose venue and audience is predominantly “White”? Do these stations pay taxes as well? All Black media venues are not “owned” by Blacks for i.e., BET. Is BET on the “to be taxed” list? What about Newscom? They offer their Black consumers one-stop access to rights-managed photos, royalty-free photos, graphics, illustrations, news stories, features, analysis and commentary. Will they be taxed for partnering with Black owned media? How far reaching will this tax go? We, Blacks need our Black media to get more accurate details about news that affects our communities. This tax will close this door. I appeal to your inner spirit, listen to it and know what you are promoting is wrong! TRASH that bill now!
